3 Easy-To-Grow Herbs For Beginners

Herbs have been used for ages as flavorings in the dishes all over the world. Apart from their aromatic properties, these plants also offer a plethora of health benefits. Herb Gardening is not at all a daunting task. Rather they can be easily grown from existing vegetable cutting or spices available in the kitchen. They require very little sunshine, regular soil, watering and some feeding in the form of fertilizers.Moreover the experience of watching a herb grow from a seed to a plant is extremely fulfilling and satisfying.

Those who are enthusiastic about gardening but don’t know how to start, here are 3 easy to grow herbs which can be sourced from regular household stuff.

Coriander / Cilantro
  • Coriander also known as Cilantro, can be grown from the seeds which is commonly used for cooking. It is also readily available in Grocery Stores and Super Markets.
  • All you need to do is to take some seeds and put them in a newspaper sheet.
  • Put a little pressure on the seeds such that the seeds are split and the inner part is exposed. This will help the seeds to germinate quickly.
  • Place the seeds in the pot and cover it up with some soil to a level such that when watered the seeds don’t get exposed.
  • Sprinkle water after planting the seeds
  • The seeds   usually take around 2 to 3 weeks to germinate. 
Mint

Mint one of the most popular aromatic herb is also an easy to grow plant. The mint plant stalks are available in the market and these can be used to grow the herb in your very own kitchen garden.

  • Select the healthiest looking stems and make a cut at the node. Nodes are a point where you see leaves growing. This cut is going to induce secretion of root hormones and hence roots will start growing from this point.
  • It is ideal to do it about 3-4 inches away from the top of the stem. The top 3-4 leaves are enough to sustain the plant for some time. The extra leaves can be removed.
  • Plant the cuttings in a small pot and sprinkle water to make the soil moist.
  • Care should be taken to keep the pot away from direct sun light so that the roots can grow and propagate in the soil.
  • The roots usually grows in around 7-10 days. Mint is a very versatile plant and can be grown in full sun or in partial sun. 
Fenugreek / Methi

Methi or Fenugreek seeds are also one variety of herbs which can be easily grown at home. 

  • The seeds can be sourced from any Grocery Store or Super Market and it can directly put in a pot.
  • After putting the seeds in a pot or container, cover it up with some soil up to half-inch such that when watered they don’t get exposed.
  • The seeds usually take around 4 to 5 days to germinate.
